Serve Locally

To connect people to service opportunities, Journey has formed ongoing relationships with nonprofits around our community.

Serve Locally
Our partner organizations focus on the homeless or near-homeless, at-risk women, men, and children and the food-insecure population in our area.

Who Can Serve?
Anyone! We’d love for you to take a first step into serving within our community whether you’re serving with your small group, your family, or individually.

We promote current community service events through our JourneyRVA Local Compassion Facebook page. We also send out emails to those who have signed up to receive local service opportunity communications. Please contact us if you have questions.

Chesterfield Food Bank

The Chesterfield Food Bank is committed to being a hand up to individuals and families that need help but have fallen through the cracks of our governmental social services programs and our community. CFB provides free food to meet the individual’s immediate need while assessing the root issues that are causing the need to exist.

When you volunteer with the Chesterfield Food Bank, you may be sorting or bagging food items, visiting with clients and assisting them with food selection, and assisting them to their car with their groceries. To see current volunteer opportunities please click here.

Mercy Mall

Website

Mercy Mall is a FREE boutique where families and individuals can shop for clothing, shoes, housewares and baby items.  They give away a few food and toiletry items to each family during their appointment.  They are not a monthly or regular “thrift store” experience, but rather a place for those in crisis situations to get their immediate needs met.

You can sign up to volunteer to organize items, clean the facility, make repairs, or work in the boutique. You can also accept and sort donated items or help process financial donations. Check out volunteer opportunities and schedules by clicking on the link to Mercy Mall’s website just above on the right!

Freekind

Website

Freekind is a non-profit, Christian faith-based organization that works locally and nationally to eradicate human trafficking.  They are committed to protecting at-risk youth by educating them about human trafficking through their nationally award-winning Prevention Project™ program.  They further engage the communities they serve through speaking engagements, in-depth trainings and prayer. Freekind is wholly supported through the voluntary generosity of individuals, churches, foundations, and businesses.

Into the Neighborhood

Volunteer Information

Since 2016, volunteers have been active in the Richmond City Justice Center and the Chesterfield County Jail. They hold hope until their friends are strong enough to hold on to it for themselves. They welcome additional volunteers to join them in the Richmond City Justice Center and the Chesterfield County Jail. You can participate as champions in their Jobs for Life programs twice a year or in one of their growing Life Transformation Discipleship groups.

Chesterfield County Public Schools

We are honored to partner with 3 schools in the CCPS system – Jacobs Rd ES, Crenshaw ES, and Providence ES. We love serving alongside the teachers and staff as they serve families and children throughout our community.

We support these schools in multiple ways, including food drives, school supply drives, Little Library book distribution site, providing homework supply boxes, gifts for teacher appreciation, and assisting with special events. We host the Providence Math Night in January/February and welcome 300 – 400 students, parents, teachers, and staff to our campus. We do special projects at each campus during our Journey Serves days twice a year (April/May and September/October). We also work with each school’s leadership to help tutor and mentor students as principals identify opportunities.

Throughout the year, we will announce special opportunities to volunteer or contribute to partner with Chesterfield County Public Schools.
